 Done cleaning up templates and rearrange stuffs. I don't usually edit and never written a business article before so I don't know how to properly write one but I suggest clean up (i.e removing the Japanese parts) and submit the draft and maybe move it to the mainspace as I think it is passes WP:NBUSINESS Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) Ninja

Nantoyōsō Collection?

In my drive to improve categorization of East Asian art articles, I've come across a Japanese collection known as the Nantoyōsō Collection (for instance in the image captions of the articles Chinese Piling paintings, He Chaozong, and Kakure Kirishitan). I cannot for the life of me find anything about this Nantoyōsō in any language, not to mention that I am drawing a blank as to what kanji could the romanization "Nantoyōsō" stand in for. Seeing the uploader of these images stopped editing 15 years ago, I'd really appreciate if anyone can figure out just what this collection is. Thanks! _dk (talk) 10:56, 19 February 2025 (UTC)

Uchima Kingdom?

I came across this map being used on Wikipedia which has Okinawa and the surrounding islands labelled as the "Uchima Kingdom", a term I have never encountered. The one who made the map is long gone. Googling "Uchima Kingdom" the first result is a Youtube video of a guy looking at this map saying he's never heard of the Uchima Kingdom. The only legitimate source I've seen mention it is from The Cambridge World History which has a map including the Uchima Kingdom in 1000 CE. I can't find anything about this "Uchima Kingdom" though, and all I can see relating Okinawa to Uchima is that Shō En, one of the kings of the Ryukyu Kingdom was also called Uchima Kanemaru (内間金丸). Also, our disambiguation page for Uchima lists

I would normally assume this was a simple typo for Uchina, but that wouldn't make the map more historically accurate. A 1200AD date indicates this would be the Gusuku Period, in which there was any no known unified kingdom across the area. It could also possibly be labeled the Shinzatomura Period, but that doesn't really help for a label on a map. Dekimasuよ! 06:09, 22 February 2025 (UTC)

Interesting. I didn't realize Uchinā was the Okinawan word for Okinawa. That makes The Cambridge World History even more of a puzzle. At 500 CE they label them as the "Ryukyuans", then at 1000 CE "Uchima Kingdom" and then no label at 1500 CE. This was published in 2015, so it's not some sort of quirk of historical literature. Source verification help request

Hello, I'm wondering if someone here might be able to help with source verification for these two book sources?

• 王国の鉄路 タイ鉄道の歴史. ISBN 978-4-87698-848-8
• タイ国鉄4000キロの旅. ISBN 978-4-286-13041-5

A lot of Thai railway station articles are cited to nothing but these two sources, and I haven't been able to find out what level of coverage they provide, or how reliable they are. --Paul_012 (talk) 09:45, 23 February 2025 (UTC)

Standard for lead transliterations

When I had an article, Noriko Takaya, peer reviewed, @Aoba47: suggested I place the lead transliteration in a footnote, as is the case of Jill Valentine. The article for Jill Valentine, being a featured article, has the transliteration structured as such. I often see Japan-related articles (particularly in locations, novels, anime, manga, and video games) not use Template:Nihongo foot in favor of using Template:Nihongo instead. Should how Jill Valentine's transliteration is handled be the standard for Japan-related articles going forward, if we want to aim them to be featured article status? If we use Template:Nihongo foot, we will need to make sure we enter a Notes section in each Japan-related article and update Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Japan-related articles. Z. • It is likely a matter of personal preference and what is determined to be best suited for the individual article. I do not think there needs to be a standard that has editors adopt one method over the other. There are those that use the footnote–such as Knuckles' Chaotix, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, Paper Mario: Color Splash, and Naruto– and those that keep it in the prose–such as Naruto Uzumaki, Raichu, and Tidus. I can see arguments for and against either style choice. I would not oppose a nomination or be against any editor who wishes to use the Template:Nihongo rather than Template:Nihongo foot. I was just voicing my opinion in the peer review, but I would be more than okay if you disagreed with it. I would of course respect whatever direction this discussion goes, but again, I think that it is best to take on a case-by-case basis rather than saying that only one of these methods should be used. It reminds me of how editors prefer and use different citation styles (WP:CITEVAR), in that as long as either Template:Nihongo or Template:Nihongo foot are used consistently, then I do not see an issue. Same with Aoba47, I does not really matter, though for me for longer (usually titles that would take nearly all 2 lines including the literal translation and has lead), I use nihongo foot, (ex. The Newbie Princess Doesn't Want a Game Over!) and for shorter one I just use Nihongo temp (ex. Little Love Song). Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 02:55, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

Japanese place names and Unnessesary Disambiguation

I only notice it now that places like Sakaide in Kagawa, Yurihama in Tottori and some other towns and cities in Japan have unnessesary disambiguator that goes like "(city/town name), (prefecture)", In the case of Yurihama, there is no other pages to disambiguate and all of the non disambiguate terms (i.e. Sakaide and Yurihama) redirects back to the town/cities itself.

I understand places like Marugame, as there are other pages like Marugame Seimen and Marugame Domain, but the others is just the town/city name and the station in that city/town.

@Miminity: I believe this thing has been discussed several times before here at WT:JAPAN and there are records of these discussions buried somewhere in this talk page's archives; so, I don't recommend WP:BOLDly making any page moves but rather suggest a more WP:CAUTIOUS approach here. Perhaps Nihonjoe, who I believe started this WikiProject, remembers where. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:42, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
